Some conversations lead to action. They are random. Life-changing. Simple. Such was the conversation that led to me going on a booking website and booking accommodation from 1 to 3 January 2019 to a place that I had visited before. The last time that I was at Amadwala Lodge in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, it was bitterly cold, beautiful, nature-inspired and a little noisy. I had a desire to go back and see how things were, and I am so glad that I did!

Keeping the lights on

I am very impressed at the improved admin from the last time that I was here. Shortly after booking and paying for my accommodation online, the wheels of excitement started rolling. I got a Business WhatsApp message from the establishment asking what time I was going to check-in. This was a small, but great value added service from the establishment. Seeing that it was in the evening, security was informed in advance and to my delight (and as an extra personal touch); the safari tent lights were kept on, as though waiting for us to arrive.

Personalised welcome

When checking in, I was impressed to note that the gentleman at the reception desk had done his "homework" and noted in advance that I was a blogger and travel writer. He also read the last review that I wrote about Amadwala Lodge, and was noting the Twitter posts and other social media channels in this regard. I must admit that I was taken aback, but won over by the establishment following and noting travel bloggers and going out of their way to impress.

Improved heating

The last time I slept here; it was downright cold. So cold, I regretted coming here. This time, I was over the moon to have one of the staff members show us around and even point out that there was an electric blanket. It was raining and storming outside. Even though it is summer in South Africa, this particular rainy night was chilly. I was so impressed that something was in place to combat the cold.

Fixed chessboard

Just when I thought that things could not get any better; they did. The last time that I was at this establishment, the outdoor chess board was broken. The wooden pieces were falling apart. It was disappointing because, from the pictures, that was something that I looked forward to playing. However, this time, everything was working well. The wooden chess pieces were rather heavy but beautiful. I played a few rounds of chess and loved it so much!

The dogs!

There were dogs in the nearby vicinity that barked all night! Their excessive barking was non stop. The barking randomly continued throughout the day but intensified at night. Throughout our stay, every night was a spectacle of excessively barking dogs. They deteriorated the quality of sleep, and their non-stop barking dominated what should have been a quiet night. On the last night, we were eventually saved by a raging storm that overpowered the voices of the continuously barking dogs.

I could, however, go on and on about the sparkling blue pool, the new friends we made there or the unforgettable company I had to accompany me. It was a trip like noneother, and I will treasure this enlightening experience. Staff is friendly, and the accommodation is clean and inviting. There is also a wedding venue or conference area that is refreshing.

All in all, I would still consider returning to Amadwala Lodge, but this time, I will come equipped with noise-masking sleepbuds (available from Amazon) or folding padded ear cups (available from Amazon). I can't stop raving about their luxury safari tents and the beauty of this place.

Kudus and much-appreciation to the Amadwala Lodge staff member who went the extra mile to read my blog, identify my face upon arrival and welcome us with the warmest smile. I do notice the extra effort and greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Sir!
